What do the ibex, octopus, sheep, and toad all have in common?

Rectangular pupils!

All these animals have rectangular pupils. These pupils are designed for seeing both during the day and at night. Rather than having vertical slits, like a cat, these animals have horizontal, rectangular pupils that allow them to survey their surroundings more accurately. The horizontal pupil increases both depth perception and peripheral vision. This helps these prey animals escape from predators as well as navigate rough terrain.

This question was posted on Kiwi Simile and MORE!'s Facebook page - the first person to answer correctly, Alyce Steidinger, was awarded a book of her choice!

This fact and many more will be explored in Ibex Idiom - release date: April 4th, 2014 on www.Amazon.com. Also, click on the BOOKS tab to view other titles that are currently available.
